Back to Roots

While goalsetting for 2012, I decided to take some time to reflect, reassess, reorganize, and regroup. It was a good year. When folks ask if I am working on anything, I say “No”, but I guess that is not entirely true. I have written published articles, two chapters published in scholarly books, received two book awards, wrote blogs, took on research jobs, created and presented programs, attended trade shows and conferences, served on a genealogy board of directors, and maintained my job as administrator for Women Writing the West. For my latest blog about revisiting journalistic roots in Chicago, go to: http://joyce4books.wordpress.com .

Next year’s calendar is already exciting. Denver Woman’s Press Club is hosting me twice for presentations on timely writing topics. I will present stories about Colorado’s historical past at various locations around the Front Range. In June, Leadville’s National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum will host a banquet in honor of Baby Doe Tabor, featuring my presentation, with tours and opportunities for conversation with mining history buffs. More details are forthcoming.

In February, watch for my interview on a Rocky Mountain PBS documentary about Dr. Justina Ford. I am counting on editors to make my TV debut passable, with help from a great topic, Dr. Ford’s diligent work and humanitarian efforts in early Denver. Progress continues on my revised e-book version of A Yellowstone Savage during the 40th Anniversary year of the story. I will be starting a new book soon. However, I will continue to regroup a while longer, until I can see the top of my desk.

Best Wishes in 2013!
